## What mauka is

mauka (Hindi: opportunity) is a two-sided marketplace for Indian film, advertising and screen work.

Productions post a brief that always includes craft, language, city, budget, dates and usage rights. Freelancers pitch with:

- their own price
- their own turnaround
- a short note
- a sample made for that job

No assistant in the middle. No chasing. No rate decided in a WhatsApp group.

## What mauka is not

- Not a job portal. Pitches sit next to each other because they answer the same six things.
- Not an open call. Talent see briefs that match what they do. Six pitch tokens a month, so people don't spam every listing.
- Not a feed. No followers. Fit Score orders the list and you can see why.

## For productions

You need one voice, editor or artist. Not forty inboxes. Agencies, corporate AV, e-learning, D2C and small houses post a brief. Fit is a reason, not a mystery score. Every pitch has a sample. Cheapest is not the default sort. Money sits in escrow.

## For talent

You set the price. You send the sample. You rate them back. Working media people, not beginners and not celebrities. Today the work often arrives in a WhatsApp group, at a number someone else picked.

Six pitch tokens a month. Craft grades: Emerging, Working, Established, Marquee, plus a Vetted badge from a craft panel. Productions are rated by talent on payment, scope, commitment, communication and respect.

## Crafts

On camera, voice, words, picture, sound, design and animation, set and style, production. Each craft has its own fields so a colourist isn't filling a voice-artist form.

## Trust

- Milestone escrow: the full hire amount is funded when you hire and releases as work is approved. Talent can see it is funded before they start.
- Vetted by a craft panel.
- Usage rights live on the brief, not in a DM.

## Pricing

- ₹0 to post a brief. Unlimited briefs. No listing fee.
- ₹0 to pitch. Six tokens a month included.
- 0% on released work for the first twelve months. After that, 1%, and only on a rehire through mauka.
- A ₹48,000 hire costs ₹48,000. The artist receives ₹48,000.
- First 20 production houses: free for 12 months. First 1,000 talents: free, permanently.

## Cities

Opening in Mumbai first. Remote briefs work from day one. Next: Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi. Waitlist also includes Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata.

## FAQ

### What does mauka cost?

Posting and pitching are free. Nothing on the first twelve months of released work. After that 1%, only if you hire the same person again through mauka. The artist's quote is what they get.

### How is a pitch different from a job application?

A fee, a turnaround, a short note and a sample for that brief. Six a month.

### Do I have to hire the cheapest pitch?

No. Fit Score is the default sort. If you switch to price, the page says so.

### When does money leave my account?

When you hire. Full amount into escrow, out as you approve milestones.

### Are talent star-rated?

No. They get a craft grade plus a Vetted badge. Stars go the other way: talent rate productions.

### I'm not in Mumbai.

Join anyway. Remote briefs work from day one. Your city's slot depends on how many people from there are on the list.
